I’ve been a lot of things in my life and believed a lot of things as well. My spiritual growth has been a journey from traditional Catholicism through Dispensationalism and finally into a ”reformed” Reformed position where I have firmly rooted since 1995. Rather than writing out a long list of personal beliefs, I can shorten the entire process by claiming it is best stated by one of the historic Christian Confessions, The Westminster Confession of Faith with a few absentions and/or modifications. These are namely:
- Chapter 1 Section 1 – The cessation of certain Sign Gifts of the Holy Spirit. I do hold that all 66 books of the Bible are the inspired Word of God and that the Scriptural Canon is closed. I do not believe there is conclusive scriptural evidence that certain gifts of the Holy Spirit ceased with the last living witness of Jesus Christ on earth. Thus I affirm that all the gifts of the Holy Spirit at work in the church of the first-century are available today, are vital for the mission of the church, and are to be earnestly desired and practiced.
- Chapter 28 Section 4 – The subjects of Baptism. I believe the preponderance of scriptural evidence affirms believer’s-only Baptism and not both believers and infants of believers. I also believe scripture provides evidence of it’s administration by all three popular modes; sprinkling, pouring and immersion.
As regards to the doctrine of future things, I would classify myself as a Moderate Postmilleniallist. I believe that Jesus is reigning now as King of Kings and Lord of Lords over all the universe, the Gospel will be victorious, both by and through the persecution of the church and that Jesus will return to earth a second time as the sovereign victor over all the nations.
